The association representing snow sports gear manufacturers and retailers is moving from Virginia to a state where there is actually a good chance of snow in the winter.
The SnowSports Industries Association will relocate its offices from McLean, Va., to Park City, Utah, the Salt Lake Tribune reported Thursday. A date for the move was not provided, but the association said it expects to employ 30 people in Utah within three years.
SIA is a $6 million-revenue association with 26 staff, according to the group's most recent tax records. Nick Sargent, a former executive for manufacturer Burton Snowboards, was appointed president of the association earlier this year.
"It's important that the snow sports industry's member-owned trade association be based in the mountains," Sargent told the newspaper. He added that "the proximity to our member base, partner organizations and industry stakeholders made Utah a natural selection."
The Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation provided SIA a $100,000 grant to help move some of staffers to Park City and hire others. The association has not said which staff will make the move and who will be let go. http://bit.ly/25RAkXb
